The Centre for Omic Sciences, Islamia College Peshawar, proudly congratulates Ms. Gul E Nayab, a student from its Pioneer Batch, for securing the highly competitive CNPq–UNESCO–TWAS Postgraduate Fellowship to pursue her postgraduate research programme in Brazil.
Ms. Nayab completed her MPhil in Genetics under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Fahim, working on an important study entitled:
“Metagenomic exploration of the bacteriome reveals natural Wolbachia infections in yellow fever mosquito Aedes aegypti and Asian tiger mosquito Aedes albopictus.”
Her research focuses on the microbiome of Aedes mosquitoes collected from the Peshawar region, with particular attention to the naturally occurring bacterium Wolbachia which has shown global potential in controlling mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue.
This achievement reflects the Centre’s commitment to producing world-class researchers who contribute to solving real-world challenges. We wish Ms. Nayab every success as she represents Pakistan and the Centre for Omic Sciences on an international research platform in Brazil.
